| hairdressers and bedlinen... |
[Thursday January 07,2010 at 10:01 pm] |
1. where can i buy (ideally cheap) pretty patterned bedlinen? i'm reeeally fussy and have been putting up with white sheets because i can't seem to find anything i like. i'm bored with them now and fancy a change! online or offline is fine, and i've already had a look at matalan/primark/argos/john lewis/ikea/cath kidston (out of my budget and not fond of the prints).
2. good hairdressers in southampton please? failing that, good and cheap hairdressers (am on a student budget, would prefer a cut/restyle for under £50, ideally a lot less! but i'm happy to pay more if it's going to be amazing) in london? i have one day left in southampton before i go back to uni in ldn and am desperate for a haircut!

| PhD! |
[Thursday January 07,2010 at 7:01 pm] |
I'm thinking of doing a PhD. I've always liked the idea of going into research and i'd also like to do it for personal reasons, because i miss university work and i don't see the point in doing another MA.
I'm just a bit confused with how it all works! When you apply i take it you have to come up with your own thesis? I'm interested in either linguistics or studying youth culture in cultural studies but i'm not sure how to go about it.
Also, how difficult is it? Is it only recommended for super smart people? I have a feeling my parents will think i'm getting a bit above myself, haha. Any advice would be very appreciated!
TIA x
P.s I have a feeling i've asked about this before but i can't find it in the memories...damn...

| Hairdressers |
[Thursday January 07,2010 at 6:01 pm] |
Hi everyone, happy 2010!
I was wondering if anyone knows of any good and not too expensive hairdressers in Coventry? I've had to switch from my old one (Regis in Cannon Park) as I just left a job in the store opposite on not the best of terms! I'm just after a trim (standard short layered, side fringe, emo-ish cut) and have a budget of about £60. With leaving the job I can't get to Birmingham etc!
Also, thanks to those of you who replied to my Egypt/Sharm El Sheikh post. Just returned and had an amazing time, your tips really prepared us!

| A3 Printers |
[Thursday January 07,2010 at 4:01 pm] |
I'm looking to buy an A3 printer and I was wondering if any of you know of any that you could recommend? The only requirement is that it can print borderless.
Currently looking at the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 as I really love the quality of prints on my A4 Epson at the moment but open to any suggestions.

Two completely unrelated questions
1. Love. How quickly do you think it's possible to fall in love with someone? Did anyone fall in love super fast after getting with someone? Or take a very long time?
2. I graduated with a 2:1 in English Studies last May. I'm now halfway through my MLitt in English Studies with the hope of a distinction. I don't get top grades or firsts all the time, but I am passionate beyond belief (to the point of annoyance) an research/academia/writing/reading is all I want to do with my life. Once I finish my MLitt I am hoping to take a couple of years doing a graduate job to save up for my PhD but I'm feeling a bit downhearted about it all because I know how hard a field it is. Basically wanting reassurance that academia/research is possible even with a 2:1.
Hope you're all untroubled by the snow, I slipped on the ice and broke my elbow and damaged my wrist muscles so I'm plastered up and bed bound! Love Vony xoxo

| arm waxing? |
[Thursday January 07,2010 at 8:01 am] |
ok girls, do any of you wax your arms? I've got an irish skin tone from my Mum but my Dad has dark skin and black hair so unfortunatly I didn't get the best mix. I absolutly hate my arms and I'm always covering them up but now I want to be able to wear my pretty sleevless tops without a chunky cardigan to match.
Do any of you wax your arms? Bleach? or what? Regrowth issues? Help would be much appreciated!

What's a good facial moisturiser for less than £10. I have pretty standard skin, normal with a little bit of dry on my nose and chin.
MANY THANKS

| JOBS |
[Wednesday January 06,2010 at 11:01 pm] |
Right, I just had a good cry about my bank balance, and finding out that the job I had pinned hopes on is not happening (casual relief at my borough's libraries)....
So, what part-time, evening/weekend, FLEXIBLE jobs are there out there?
I'm currently doing an MA and I have to be in three days a week, and those lectures are non-negotiable. I mean obviously I could apply to my local Morrisons, I know that, but I was thinking there must be some more non-obvious jobs just PERFECT for students? Hmmm? That have odd hours, or let you choose the hours you work...
Also recommendations of websites other than gumtree that have a big collection of varied jobs?
Thankyou!

| Soap and Glory! |

I got a few products for Christmas, and I want to know what your favourite Soap and Glory products are! I fancy trying out a few more things but I'm not sure what to go for. I've got The Righteous Butter & Flake Away (amongst others) and I am amazed at how much softer my skin is... Whey!
